ACCORD Project: A Newly Funded Research Initiative to Better Understand Heart–Lung Interactions
Team 3 of PhyMedExp is pleased to announce that funding has been awarded to the ACCORD project, led by Dr. Christophe Hédon at Montpellier University Hospital (CHU de Montpellier). This collaborative project brings together researchers and clinicians from cardiology, pulmonology, physiology, and INSERM.
The ACCORD project focuses on patients with heart failure and concomitant chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Its primary objective is to better understand why coexisting respiratory disease may limit the benefits of cardiac rehabilitation, particularly improvements in exercise capacity.
The study will include 46 patients with heart failure, with or without COPD, who will be assessed before and after a 20-session cardiac rehabilitation program. Researchers will investigate cardiovascular, vascular, and skeletal muscle responses to exercise, alongside a range of biological biomarkers. By providing new insights into cardiorespiratory interactions, the ACCORD project aims to advance our understanding of the mechanisms underlying differences in rehabilitation outcomes and ultimately contribute to more personalized patient management and rehabilitation strategies.
The ACCORD project is funded by the Fonds de dotation AGIR for Chronic Diseases.
